Afghanistan reached into the Semi-final after beating Bangladesh by 8 runs(DLS method)

 


Afghanistan defeat Bangladesh by 8 runs(DLS method) and they're qualified for the semi-final where Australia are out of the tournament in the on-going t20 world cup 2024 which is played between Afghanistan and Bangladesh at Arnos Vale Stadium.

Bangladesh were all out in 17.5 overs and fails to secure a victory of small target. Afghanistan give the target of 116 runs to Bangladesh. But, after some time raining and bad weather conditions match was interrupted. And, ICC has decided to reduce target and overs to complete for Bangladesh. The reduced target was 114 runs in 19 overs. While, Bangladesh become all-out at just 17.5 overs. Due to poor batting from Bangladeshi batsman, they lose this game and also become out of the tournament. For Bangladesh, only 3 batsman can score runs in double digits. Opener Liton Das scored the highest runs for Bangladesh as he scored half-century. He scored not out 54 runs in 49 deliveries including 5 boundaries and 1 sixes. While, Soumya Sarkar and Towhid Hridoy scored 10 runs in 10 balls and 14 runs in 9 balls respectively. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto departs after scoring 5 runs in 5 balls. While, no any other batsman can score double digit.

Afghanistan bowling performance was outstanding in this tournament and as well as in this match also. They're doing great with bowling rather than batting. Spinners and Pacers both doing their job according to the plans they've made. Bowlers Naveen-ul-Haq and Rashid Khan take equal 4 wickets for each of them. Similarly, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Gulbadin Naib take equal one wicket for each by conceding 15 runs and 5 runs in 2 overs respectively.

In the first innings, Afghanistan batsman couldn't manage to score more but they give a respectable and fightable target to Bangladesh. Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran scored 43 runs in 55 deliveries including 3 boundaries and 1 six and 18 runs in 29 deliveries which include only one four. While, Azmatullah Omarzai and Captain Rashid Khan scored 10 runs in 12 balls and 19 runs in 10 balls respectively.

Bangladeshi bowlers perform good but still they get the good target in this pitch. For Bangladesh, Rishad Hossain takes the highest wickets for Bangladesh as he take 3 wickets by conceding 26 runs in 4 overs. While, Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman both take only one wicket for each of them by conceding 12 runs and 17 respectively in 4 overs.

Naveen-ul-Haq became Player of the Match(POTM) due to his excellent bowling performance as he take 4 crucial wickets by conceding only 26 runs in 3.5 overs. He won POTM awards for the second time in this world cup.
