Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders are going to fight for the title of the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the second qualifier held on Friday, Hyderabad defeated Rajasthan Royals by 36 runs and Kolkata's opponent was decided.
After losing the toss and batting in Chennai, Hyderabad scored 175 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs. For Hyderabad, Henrik Klaasen scored the highest 50 runs by hitting 4 sixes in 34 balls. Rahul Tripathi played an explosive innings of 37 runs in 15 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes while Travis Head scored 34 runs in 28 balls. Shahbaz Ahmed added 18 runs and Abhishek Sharma added 12 runs.
For Rajasthan, Trent Boult and Avesh Khan took 3 wickets each while Sandeep Sharma took 2 wickets.
In reply, Rajasthan could score only 139 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. For Rajasthan, Dhruv Jurel scored 56 runs off 35 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 42 runs off 21 balls by hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes. Other batters could not run.
Shahbaz Ahmed took 3 wickets and Abhishek Sharma took 2 wickets for Hyderabad. Pat Cummins and Natarajan took 1 wicket each.
Shahbaz Ahmed became Player Of The Match(POTM) due to his exceptional bowling performance. He took 3 crucial wickets by giving only 23 runs at the economy of 5.75.
Kolkata defeated Hyderabad in the first qualifier to enter the final. Hyderabad entered the final in the second chance they got. Rajasthan had to register a win over Bengaluru in the eliminator to reach Qualifier 2.
