Chennai Super Kings registered a victory over Punjab Kings in the first match of the Indian Premier League on Sunday. Chennai registered a 28-run victory over Punjab.
Chasing the target of 168 runs given by Chennai, Punjab managed to score only 139 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. For Punjab, Prabhasimran Singh scored 30 runs off 23 balls. Similarly, Shashank Singh added 27 runs in 20 balls. Harpreet Brar scored 17 runs while Rahul Chahar scored 16 runs.
Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets in Chennai's win. Similarly, Tushar Deshpande and Simarjit Singh took 2 wickets each while Mitchell Santner and Shardul Thakur took 1 wicket each.
Earlier in Dharamsala, Chennai lost the toss and scored 167 runs after losing 9 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs. Ravindra Jadeja top scored 43 off 26 balls for Chennai. Opener and Kalyan Ruturaj Gaikwad added 32 runs and Daryl Mitchell added 30 runs. Moin Ali and Shardul Thakur scored 17 runs each.
Rahul Chahar and Harshal Patel took 3 wickets each for Punjab. Arshdeep Singh took 2 wickets and Shyam Karan took 1 wicket.
After the win, Chennai has moved up to third place with 12 points from 11 matches. Defeated Punjab is in eighth place with 8 points from 11 matches.
